Kendall Avenue neighbors tried to publicly shame an alleged child predator and reports of shots fired on McConnell. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
Just before 1:30 am, police discovered a woman sitting on a Poplar Street porch, claiming it was her home. However, that was not the case. Officers transported her to the Speedway to get warm. Earlier in the evening, police had taken the apparently mentally ill woman to the hospital, but she walked away.
A Jackson Avenue caller reported a man going through trash cans at 5:24 am. Police advised him to move along.
Shots on McConnell Avenue
A McConnell Avenue Caller reported 3 gunshots coming from the direction of the park at 1:42 am. Two minutes later another caller said they heard six shots in the alley in the 1400 block of McConnell.
Officers checked the area about five minutes later but found no evidence of gunfire.
Bar Fight
Police responded to a report of a man attempting to fight people at Richard Noggins just after 2 am. All parties involved in the fight were gone by the time officers arrived.
Under the Influence
At 6:14 am, a caller reported a man passed out in a vehicle at the Super Quik on the Scioto Trail. Officers took the driver into custody and arranged to have the vehicle towed.
A Mound Street neighbor reported homeless people shooting up drugs inside a vacant home. Officers did not find the suspect but reported that the property was in horrible condition and needed to be condemned. They contacted the city and arranged to tow a vehicle.
Criminal Damaging
A 17th Street resident contacted police to report that people were writing on his front doors and windows that he is a child predator and drug dealer.
Police took information for a report.
Clare Avenue Crash
A crash at the Amazing Grace Center netted an arrest for an open warrant just after 11 am. It started when one vehicle backed into another car. While no report was needed for the private property crash, police discovered one of the drivers had an open warrant for theft.
Police took the man into custody and arranged for his vehicle to be towed.
High Street Robbery
A citizen stopped by the police department at 11:28 am to report they were jumped and robbed while walking in an alley in the 1800 block of High Street the previous evening.
Police took information for a report.
Hey, That’s, My Stuff!
- Officers responded to a Kendall Avenue apartment after a woman claimed a man inside an apartment had her phone. The man allowed officers inside but found only one phone, belonging to the man. The two used to date. Officers advised them to stay away from each other.
- Just after 6 pm, a woman claimed her son stole her vehicle from a Gilbert Street garage. However, she declined to press charges.
Troubled Teen
Just before 7 pm, a local treatment facility reported a teenage girl missing. They said the girl was most likely running away for attention and was likely in no danger. Officers looked in the area of the facility but did not see her.
Forty minutes later, the teen was spotted on the lot of Portsmouth Ambulance looking into vehicles on the rear lot.
Officers noted she had some scratches on her arm. The girl was transported to SOMC for treatment.
