Not my pants is not a defense
‘Not my pants’ is not a valid legal defense. The Montgomery County Ohio Sheriff’s Department is warning about the dangers of borrowing other people’s pants. If you’re a fan of shows like Live PD or Cops, you’ll know that “These aren’t my pants” is a favorite excuse of suspects caught with something suspicious in their pockets.
In fact, back in 2007, when actress Lindsay Lohan was caught with drugs in her pockets during a traffic stop, she even tried the famous excuse.
To bring awareness to this pressing issue, the Montgomery County Ohio Sheriff’s Department shared a humorous ‘public service announcement’ that’s since gone viral warning citizens that ‘not my pants’ is not a defense and that one should always remove all contraband from borrowed trousers.
The post read, “Prior to wearing someone else’s pants, please remove all drugs, drug paraphernalia, stolen property, or any other illegal items the ‘owner’ of the pants may have left behind. “These are not my pants” is not an affirmative defense.”
The post noted that they were not attorneys and one should always check with an attorney before wearing pants with drug-filled pockets.
The post has been shared close to 3,000 times and been featured in the media all over the county and even in London.
