Two Ohio cops have been busted on charges they stole cocaine from drug dealers they were investigating and then sold the drugs for themselves.
John Castillo, 31, of Grove City, and Joel M. Mefford, 34, of London, Ohio, were arrested on Thursday. According to court documents, Mefford unlawfully broke into a garage that was part of a drug investigation and stole half of the drugs, leaving the rest to be found when officers executed a search warrant the next day. Then he did the exact same thing a month later. But that’s not all; Mefford also helped himself to drugs from the property room and replaced them with fake cocaine.
Those criminal actions earned him more than $72,000 from drug sales.
Castillo stole 10 kilos of coke from a house slated for a drug raid later in the day and left 2 kilos behind for officers to find. Then, he gave the drugs to someone to sell on his behalf.
The two are charged with possessing with intent to distribute, and Mefford is also charged with money laundering.
They could face up to 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
