Another dangerous chemical leak is threatening the safety of Ohio residents. The Medina County EMA warned people to shelter in place after a hydrochloric acid line broke at a business in Seville, located in the Northeast Ohio county.
According to the agency, the Seville Fire Department, Medina County Hazmat, along with multiple mutual aid resources responded to a Hazardous Materials Incident at Bleachtech.
A Hydrochloric Acid line broke Monday afternoon releasing acid into a containment area outside of the building. Officials evacuated the immediate area has been evacuated and businesses within ½ mile were told to shelter in place.
The agency said, “Bleachtech is working with the Hazmat and the Ohio EPA to recover the hydrochloric acid and limit impact to the environment.”
This incident follows the 2022 train derailment, which leaked toxic chemicals into the ground and water near East Palestine Ohio, and killed an estimated 44,000 wild animals.
You’ll remember this cleanup effort sparked numerous controversies including the transport of the toxic waste to Deer Park, Texas. Deer Park is a suburb of Huston.
