Just after 6 a.m., Portsmouth Police raced to a Highland Avenue home after reports of a violent fight between a man and a woman. When officers arrived, they detained Derek Knight and called for an ambulance 🚑.
Knight, already out on parole for abduction and witness intimidation, is now facing domestic violence and strangulation charges. Officers booked him into the Scioto County Jail, and he’s set for a preliminary hearing on August 21.
This arrest comes less than six months after Knight’s February 28 parole release — and it’s far from his first run-in with the law.
📜 Derek Knight’s Rap Sheet Includes:
- 🚨 Abduction – current parole offense
- 🤐 Witness intimidation – current parole offense
- 🏚 Breaking and entering
- 🛑 Theft from the elderly
- 🥴 OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired)
- 🤬 Disorderly conduct
⚠️ Why this matters: Being on parole means you’re already on thin ice — and a new violent crime can send you straight back to prison.
🛡 If You or Someone You Know Is Facing Domestic Violence:
- 📞 Call 911 immediately — police can separate parties and get medical help fast.
- 🗣 Speak up — restraining orders and TPOs (Temporary Protection Orders) are there for safety.
- 🧾 Document everything — texts, photos, and witness statements matter in court.
- 📢 Use local resources — shelters and hotlines can help with emergency housing and protection.
Domestic violence is serious, and when a repeat offender is involved, the risks only escalate.
