Portsmouth Apartment Buildings Condemned

Portsmouth, Ohio Police helped the Health Department condemn a troubled apartment complex, the Holy Spirit moved a man to block traffic, and two stolen vehicles were recovered on a busy day.  We break it all down in these next 15 slides.


Cry For Help

Just after midnight, police answered a call for a reported suicide attempt. The caller said the woman took a lot of pills.

Police arranged to transport the woman to SOMC for treatment.

Bricks in the Road

Police responded to the 5700 block of Gallia at 2 am for a report of bricks in the road. An officer more the bricks to the sidewalk.

Unknown Trouble

Officers responded to a 911 hang-up call in the 12th Street area at 5:58 am. They discovered a screen door leaning up against the house and a broken pane of glass. Officers knocked on the door but got no answer.

However, a neighbor came over and said someone broke into her girlfriend’s car, and then her children observed someone attempting to break into the house.

Police received a second 911 call from the area at 6:42 but could not locate any sign of trouble.

Catch and Release

Just after 7 am, police responded to a report of someone passed out in a gold Pontiac at the Valero on Gallia.

Officers detained a woman and arranged to have the vehicle towed. They arrested her but the jail refused to take her. Police issued a summons and let her go.

Asleep at the Wheel

New Boston Police relayed a call about a man passed out in a vehicle at a stop sign on Sterling Avenue just after 8 am. The man told police he’d been up all night at a friend’s house and had nodded off to sleep at the stop sign.

Officers said he did not appear to be impaired though he did have a suspended license. Police advised him to find someone else to drive.

Full of the Holy Spirit

Police responded to a report of a man standing in the middle of 6th Street yelling at 8:33 am. He was blocking traffic.

The man explained that he’d caught the Holy Spirit and had to walk out into the street to pray. Police advised him to be careful.

Under the Influence

  • Just before 10:30 am, a Gallia Street caller reported a man in the road in front of the McDonald’s. The shirtless man appeared to be on drugs.
  • Fifteen minutes later, officers were called to the auxiliary homeless shelter on 17th for a report of a man acting erratically. He tried to tie a child’s bed to a pole. He left, walking towards the cemetery. Police were unable to locate him.
  • At 3:48 pm, a caller reported an apparently high man in a cam jacket blocking traffic in front of Arby’s on Chillicothe Street. It turned out he had a warrant out of New Boston. NBPD took him into custody.
  • A caller reported an apparently high man with a gash on his head walking on Summit Street at 5 pm. Police said it was a small cut on his nose. His problems appeared to be mental and not related to substance abuse.
  • Officers responded to a report of a possible OD inside a truck on 16th Street at 7:21 pm. The man’s aunt arrived on the scene to take him to the hospital and a female friend took the truck.
  • Officers responded to 6th Street at 8:30 pm for a report of a woman under the influence. An ambulance transported her to the hospital.
  • At 9:33 pm, a Grandview Avenue resident told police a tall, apparently high, man in a hat was hanging around his home. Officers observed the man walk away.

Bellomy Apartments Condemned

Police assisted the Portsmouth Health Department with condemning two apartment buildings on the Scioto Trail just before 11 am.

They also served a bench warrant for a man who failed to appear in court and arranged to have three vehicles towed off the property at the Bellomy Apartments owner’s request. The owner of the vehicle explained he was there to help a tenant move, so the police let that vehicle stay.

They advised all tenants to vacate the property.


Screaming and Yelling On Grandview

At 11:37 am, a Grandview Avenue caller reported a disturbance. A man screamed and yelled as he walked north on Grandview. An officer advised the man to stop yelling.

Where’s Mom?

Police helped locate the mom of a little girl who was about to be released from a behavioral until. The hospital was unable to locate the mother.

Officers were able to make contact.

Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near the First Church of the Nazarene just after 1 pm.  A witness reported a black GMC truck had parked there for three days.  The vehicle was covered in mud. There was no license plate. Police ran the VIN number and discovered the truck had been reported stolen. They contacted the owner.

At 1:35 pm, Enterprise Rent A Car located their stolen vehicle at a 16th Street address. Police detained a man with a firearm.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • Just after 2:30 pm, police responded to Franklin Avenue for a report of a man in a dark mask stealing a package from a porch.
  • AT 3:17 pm, police contacted a Highland Avenue resident about a burglary report.
  • Just after 7:30 pm, a High Street resident reported a break-in with items missing. Police took information for a report.
  • At 7:52 pm, police received a report that a home health aide stole gift cards from a client on 7th Street. They took information for a report.

Don’t Threaten My Dog

A woman called the police just after 5 pm to say a teenage boy was threatening to kill her dog. Police told her to call them back if he gives her any more problems.

Help! Mom and Dad are Fighting

AT 5:30 pm, a caller advised police her mom and dad were fighting. It turned out the argument was verbal. Police spoke to the parents.

DOA

Police answered a call for a dead body at a Grandview Avenue residence at 7:30 pm. Police contacted the coroner.  He released the body to a funeral home.
