A Portsmouth woman with a troubling history of run-ins with the law is once again facing serious charges involving young children. The Scioto County Grand Jury has indicted 24-year-old Lara King on two counts of child endangering related to the care of a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old.
The charges stem from an April 15 incident in which prosecutors allege King violated her duty of care to the two children. This isn’t the first time King has faced such accusations.
Back in January 2023, she pleaded no contest to child endangerment and was sentenced to probation. That probation was nearly revoked in April of this year after her latest arrest, but the motion was ultimately withdrawn.
Her legal troubles continued throughout 2023. In March of that year, she was again charged with child endangerment, a case that was waived to the Grand Jury. While it was later dismissed without prejudice, prosecutors retained the option to refile the charges.
Then, in October 2024, King was arrested for domestic violence. Those charges were also dismissed. Her name appeared on the police blotter again in May for disorderly conduct, and she was cited just this week—on June 20—for driving with a suspended license.
King is set to appear in Scioto County Common Pleas Court on July 8 to answer to the latest charges.
