It was a busy four days for the Portsmouth Police Department. They investigated burglaries, fights, a serious accusation of child sexual assault and more between Friday and Monday. Here’s what went down between 2-28 and 3-2-2020
Police were called by a grandmother to speak with a little boy who said he’d been sexually assaulted by his mother’s boyfriend with the mom’s knowledge over a period of several years. That matter is still under investigation.
Fortunately, another call about the welfare of a child turned out to be a false alarm. Someone called for a welfare check on their infant nephew. According to the responding officer not only was everything a healthy baby needed available at the home, but the baby was also pretty cute.
Police also had to mediate between two brothers. An 8th Street resident says his brother stole items from his apartment but he didn’t really want to press charges. An officer spoke with the brother and explained that he could be in serious trouble. The brothers agreed to work it out.
Police also helped a naked man out in the cold on a Mound Street Porch get some help as well as several other confused individuals.
Plus they investigated the case of a woman who hopped up out of the hairdresser’s chair with the foil still in her hair and took off without paying. Police were also called to the scene for a crying baby at one location and someone digging a hole at another. The baby was okay. The man was just looking for bottles.
By the numbers, Portsmouth Police officers responded to the following:
Suspicious Persons, Vehicles, Disturbances – 53
Warnings Issued – 18
Alarms Answered – 13. Nine were either false or canceled by the alarm company. When officers arrived on the scene for the other four, they didn’t find anything unusual.
Traffic Stops & Parking Issues – 21
All in all, officers responded to 123 incidents during this time period
