A Scioto County grand jury has indicted a Portsmouth substitute teacher and junior high football coach on shocking sex crime charges involving a student.
The grand jury handed down indictments against Damion Quaza Coleman Jr., 33, of Kent Street, Portsmouth, during its most recent session. According to the indictment, the charges stem from incidents that occurred between October 2024 and March 2025.
Prosecutors say Coleman, with full knowledge, possessed obscene photographs of an underage minor in a complete state of nudity—exposing her breasts and buttocks while standing in a shower.
Further charges allege Coleman engaged in sexual conduct with a student at Portsmouth City Schools, where he served both as a substitute teacher and as the junior high football coach.
The Portsmouth Police Department first announced Coleman’s arrest last month, citing allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an underage female.
Coleman faces the following felony charges:
- Pandering Sexually Oriented Material Involving a Minor (Felony 4)
- Sexual Battery Involving a Minor (Felony 4)
His bond was set at $10,000 for the pandering charge and $50,000 for sexual battery. The court declared him indigent and appointed a public defender to represent him.
