PPD: Do You Smell That?

An air freshener that smelled like meth and drugs that actually smelled like drugs kept PPD officers hopping on Thursdays. Plus calls about children dominated the day. From runaways to children left alone in the street, police made sure children of all ages were safe. We hit all of the highlights in these next 15 slides. Closing Time

Just after 2:30 am a man called the police and said he was being assaulted at Richard Noggins on Gallia.

When officers arrived, they discovered he was a bar patron who refused to leave at closing time. Employees escorted him out.

Cry For Help

Officers responded to 7th Street at 3:35 am for a report of an attempted suicide. Officers assisted other first responders in helping the woman.

Crash Victim?

At 4 am, officers assisted the Ohio State Patrol and attempted to contact a man OSP believed was involved in an Adams County crash.  Troopers wanted to know if the man was injured and if he was involved in the accident. If not, his vehicle may have been stolen.  Police were unable to contact him.

Not Welcome

Police responded to Center street just after 5 am for a report of a woman refusing to leave a home. The woman showed up uninvited and refused to leave. When the police arrived, she complained of medical issues. She was transported to SOMC for treatment.

Get In Line

A caller reported a man cussing everyone out and refusing to get out of line at Spartan Stadium just before 10 am. The parties worked it out amongst themselves before police arrived.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

  • At 10:12 am, a resident reported an attempted burglary on 3rd Street, the caller said someone tried to kick in the back door. Police took a report.
  • Police answered a report of a B & E at a Jefferson Street Business at 1:36 pm. The company had cameras but they did not capture the incident. A speaker was stolen. Police took a report.

Out Alone

Just before 11 am, officers answered a call to Kinneys Lane about a little boy and girl running around the area unsupervised. They were gone when police arrived.

Meanwhile At Speedway

A Speedway employee called police just before noon to report a man attempted to shoplift a pair of sunglasses from the store. An employee confronted the man and retrieved the glasses. The man left in a black car in the direction of Wayne Hills.

Run, Run, Runaway

A concerned relative called police at 12:32 pm to report that their niece was attempting to run away. Police picked up the child and took her to the station to meet with Children Services. The kid was released back into the custody of the concerned relative.

House Check

Officers performed house checks on the following properties between 12:30 and 1 pm.

  • 1824 6th Street
  • 1712 8th Street
  • 1309 Mound Street

What’s That Smell?

  • A 15th Street resident reported they believed that someone was making meth in their apartment building due to the smell coming from a neighbor’s home. Officers discovered that the smell was air freshener.
  • At 10 pm, a caller reported a suspicious smell coming from a 16th Street apartment. This time the caller was on to something. Police made a drug arrest.

Under The Influence

  • Police were called to Kroger at 3:40 pm for a report of an intoxicated woman on a scooter offering alcohol to everyone. She was arrested and taken to the Scioto County Jail
  • At 5 pm, officers responded to a report of a man staggering down Ruhlman Avenue. The caller believed he was on something. He was gone by the time police arrived.
  • Just before 6 pm, police were called to 7th Street for a report of an overdose. The victim was transported to SOMC.
  • A caller reported a shirtless man stumbling around the parking lot of the Berean Baptist Church just after 7 pm. He was gone when police arrived.
  • A woman passed out in the restroom and Ollie’s Burger and BBQ just before 9 pm. She was already intoxicated when she arrived and was not coherent when police attempted to speak with her. She was transported to SOMC to treatment.

I Don’t Want To Go Home

Officers were called to assist at a Park Avenue Home when a 14-year-old refused to leave with her family at 5:30 pm.

She did not want to go home to Kentucky. She had permission to visit until her family discovered she was at the address with a boy.

Toddler Trouble

A caller reported a toddler boy throwing toys in the road on Kinneys Lane just after 5:30 pm. When officers arrived they discovered that a mom had left an 8-year-old in charge of her little brother while she got dinner out of the oven.

The girl was distracted by her iPad and didn’t keep an eye on the toddler. Police arrived and found the toys had been picked up and the kids were inside. The officer said that all involved realized mistakes were made. However, he reported the kids seemed fine.

Missing Child

At 7 pm, officers answered a call to Walnut Street to find a missing child. The child was located a few minutes later just down the street and reunited with its guardian.
