Starving Dogs Reported in Franklin Furnace
Just after noon, Scioto County Deputies responded to a disturbing report of animal abuse in Franklin Furnace.
The caller said two dogs were tied up outside with no food and water. Additionally, the animals were malnourished and too weak to stand up.
When officers arrived on the scene, the dogs got up to greet them. Officers noted that the animals were very thin, but the owner had paperwork that showed the dogs recently had worms and were receiving treatment.
While the dogs had shelter from the sun, they did not have shelter from the wind. Deputies confirmed that the animals had food and water.
They advised the owners that the dogs need proper shelter from wind and weather and cannot be outside for more than 16 hours. They said they would return to check the status of the animals in a month to make sure they had gained weight and had proper shelter. If not, the matter will be forwarded to the dog warden.

Further, she said she’d called the Dog Warden the day before, and they were supposed to investigate a complaint about the dog, but hadn’t arrived yet. In the meantime, the neighbor’s dog had attacked her animal.
The Dog Warden was already in the area and issued a citation to the neighbor.
