A terrified woman secretly texted 911 from inside her home after being brutally beaten and choked unconscious — all while trying to protect her child from further harm.
Deputies rushed to the home in South Point after dispatchers received a quiet, broken call for help, followed by text messages saying her boyfriend had “beat her and tried to kill her.” The woman told dispatchers she was hiding in a bedroom with her child and was too afraid to speak out loud.
When deputies arrived, they found the suspect — David Nance — asleep on the couch. He was quickly taken into custody. Inside a back bedroom, officers found the woman and her child, both shaken and injured.
💔 Brutal Attack Inside the Home
The victim told deputies Nance had punched her several times in the face before choking her until she blacked out. She said she could hear her child crying but couldn’t breathe or move.
Paramedics arrived soon after and treated the woman, who had severe bruising and swelling around one eye, a bleeding cut, and red marks on her neck showing signs of strangulation. Deputies photographed the injuries and the chaotic scene — overturned furniture and a broken fan scattered across the floor.
Both the victim and her child were transported to the hospital for treatment.
🚨 The Arrest and Investigation
Nance was taken to the Lawrence County Jail and booked on domestic violence charges. While being transported, he claimed the woman had attacked him “over a cup of ice” and bit him during the fight. Deputies also photographed his minor injuries.
Child Protective Services has been notified and will follow up on the case.
