A recent call on 24th Street and Richardson Road shows why it’s important to check on drivers who seem “off,” no matter what the cause may be.
A tree service crew dialed 911 after a woman drove over orange cones they had set out in the street. When officers arrived, they found her vehicle stalled in the roadway and the woman wandering nearby, asking for gas.
Witnesses said she appeared to be “tweaking,” but officers determined she was able to answer questions clearly and wasn’t in immediate medical danger. They called for a tow truck and gave her a ride home.
While this case may have looked like drug use, appearances can be deceiving. Disoriented driving behavior can be caused by many factors—medical emergencies like low blood sugar or seizures, mental health issues, medication side effects, or even extreme fatigue.
The safest choice? Call for help. A quick 911 call ensures that someone checks on the driver before things escalate into a serious crash.
Tree service workers who made the call likely prevented the situation from getting worse, police said, and that’s exactly the kind of response they want from the public
