A wife managed to wrestle a gun away from her suicidal husband and hold him until officers arrived on the scene.
Officers were called to a heated domestic involving a gun just after 2 pm, but when they arrived at the Proctorville home, the wife had things partially under control. Deputies observed she was sitting on her husband. They cuffed the man and put him in the cruiser while they took the wife’s statement.
She told officers her husband had a serious drinking problem, and she’d told him he needed to go to the VA for help. She told him she would leave if he didn’t get treatment. The man then put a gun to his head. When she tried to wrestle it away, he pointed it at her and threatened to shoot her.
She fought him for the gun, threw it out of the way, and then sat on him until officers arrived. An ambulance checked the man out, and officers transported him to the Lawrence County Jail.
The woman said she would have a relative take the family firearms for safekeeping.
