A traffic incident ended with police finally catching up to a man who had been wanted for months.
Officers arrested a Portsmouth man after responding to an incident where they said the suspect had backed into something with a vehicle. Police impounded the vehicle and had it towed.
During the investigation, officers learned Arthur Green had an active warrant for failure to appear in court.
That warrant stemmed from a September case involving allegations that he made domestic threats.
⚖️ HOW HE GOT HERE
In the earlier case, Portsmouth Municipal Court:
- Issued a temporary protection order (TPO)
- Appointed a public defender
- Released him on his own recognizance
Later, during a scheduled pre-trial hearing, Green was reportedly rushed to the hospital and the case was continued.
But when he failed to appear for a January court date, the judge issued a bench warrant. His public defender also withdrew from the case.
THIS TIME, NO WALKING OUT
After this latest arrest, Green appeared again in Portsmouth Municipal Court.
This time, the court decided to hold him under bond until a hearing set for May 11.
🔎 PRIOR DOMESTIC CASE
Court records also show Green was arrested in 2023 on a domestic violence case after being accused of throwing a beer can during an argument.
That case was later resolved through diversion, and the charge was dismissed.
👀 WHY THIS MATTERS
Missing court dates often changes everything.
Someone who was once released can later be jailed simply for not returning when ordered.
In this case, what started with a backed-up vehicle ended with old court problems catching up fast.
