A Portsmouth traffic stop turned into a chase through Wayne Hills and Hisle Park, ending with a Kentucky man in custody and two police cruisers struck.
Portsmouth police attempted to stop a pickup around 12:30 a.m. near Gallia and Mabert.
According to the police log, the vehicle headed north toward Wayne Hills, continued up Kendall Avenue at high speeds, then headed toward Hisle Park.
Officers reported speeds around 60 mph, squealing tires, and the vehicle going off road near the park.
The chase ended behind a home on Orizaba Avenue, where police detained the driver.
During the incident, the vehicle reportedly struck two police cruisers. Officers said one cruiser remained operational, and photos were taken.
Police arrested Hayden Huff on charges of obstructing official business, failure to comply with the order of a police officer, resisting arrest, felonious assault, and endangering children.
He was also cited for squealing tires, which appears to have been the reason for the original traffic stop.
A squad was requested during the incident, and police also handled towing and paperwork.
Huff is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 6.
The charges are allegations. Huff is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
