A reported stolen car at the SOMC Life Center in Lucasville turned into a countywide search with a surprise ending.
Scioto County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Life Center around 10 p.m. after a 2016 Dodge Dart was reported stolen within the previous 30 minutes.
The caller said the keys had not been left in the vehicle.
A BOLO was issued to Scioto County deputies, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Portsmouth police, and New Boston police. Deputies checked along U.S. 23 but did not locate the vehicle.
SOMC Security Chief David Hall was contacted, and SOMC security began checking whether video footage might be available.
But the case took a turn when Attentive Towing advised that it had picked up the wrong vehicle.
The tow company had been sent to pick up a different vehicle, but after the owner of the requested tow confirmed the mistake, the company realized it had towed the Dodge Dart instead.
The tow truck brought the vehicle to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office parking lot.
A deputy contacted the owner to explain what happened, and the owner picked up the vehicle shortly after midnight.
The BOLO was canceled, and the vehicle was removed from the stolen vehicle system.
No arrest was reported.
