Someone apparently decided that equipment being used for improvements at a popular recreation area was theirs for the taking.
Lawrence County deputies investigated a theft complaint at the Lake Vesuvius boat ramp, where workers reported equipment missing from an ongoing project.
According to the sheriff’s report, a man working for a construction company told deputies that employees had been working at the boat ramp when they discovered equipment was missing.
The missing property included a generator, a post driver and other equipment used at the worksite.
Workers told deputies the equipment had been left in the area while the project was underway.
The deputy documented the missing property and gathered information about the circumstances surrounding the theft.
The report does not identify a suspect or indicate that anyone was arrested.
Theft at a Public Recreation Area
Lake Vesuvius is a popular outdoor destination in the Wayne National Forest, drawing visitors for fishing, boating, hiking and other activities.
Construction and maintenance projects at public recreation areas often require workers to leave equipment at a site between shifts, making theft prevention a challenge.
Generators and other portable construction equipment can be particularly attractive to thieves because they can be moved and resold.
Anyone with information about the missing equipment can contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
