A 17-year-old girl fled to a neighbor’s home after an alleged assault Friday evening, setting off a Rush Township domestic violence investigation that ended with a woman in jail and the other children leaving with their father.
Scioto County deputies were called shortly before 7 p.m. after the teenager reported she had run from another residence following an assault.
A second call came from Rebecca Adkins, who told dispatchers the teenager had left after an argument and was at a neighbor’s house. Adkins said she had tried to pick the girl up but the neighbors told her to leave.
When deputies met with the teenager, they reported she had an injury consistent with the reported assault. She declined an ambulance.
The girl’s aunt arrived while deputies contacted her father.
Deputies then went to the other residence to speak with Adkins.
She was detained, advised of her Miranda rights, and taken into custody.
The sheriff’s log says the other children at the residence were released to their father.
Adkins was booked into the Scioto County Jail on charges of domestic violence and obstructing official business.
She later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a protection order was issued. Adkins was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on November 24.
Court records show previous arrests involving violating a protection order, multiple domestic violence allegations, assault, resisting arrest, and driving without a license. Those prior arrests should not all be treated as convictions.
The latest charges are allegations, and Adkins is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
