Portsmouth Ohio Crime Reports

Playing In Traffic

Just after midnight, officers stopped a shirtless man running in traffic on 12th Street. He told police he was there to pick up trash and would now go home to lay down. Police told him to stay out of the road.

What’s That Smell?

A caller asked police to check a Boundary Street address at 4 am. She said she smelled ether. Police found a gas leak and advised the apartment owner.

Calls For Help

  • A caller informed police just after 5 am that someone was chasing him in the Kinneys Lane area. Officers said he had mental issues.
  • A woman reported her neighbors to police just after 10:30 pm. She said the neighbors were saying whatever she was thinking. Officers advised it was not a police matter.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • A Dale Street caller reported a stolen purse just after 5:30 am.
  • A woman called police at 6:26 am to report a missing vehicle. She said a man borrowed it two days before and never brought it back. Police took a report.
  • A Grandview Avenue caller reported a gun stolen out of his vehicle just before 9 am. He said the theft happened in Sciotoville.
  • A man called police just before 6 pm to report his girlfriend stole his lawnmower. Since she lived with him, police advised it was a civil matter.
  • Just before 9 pm, officers responded to Coles Blvd. for a report that someone broke the lock off a garage. The caller said someone went through her belongings.  She said someone removed the locks to the garage and replaced them with new locks. Police said it was part of an ongoing civil issue.

Under the Influence

  • Police responded to 8th Street just before 6:24 for a report of a woman overdosing. She refused transport.
  • A woman called police around 7:30 am to report her husband pushed her off a porch, took her medication, and too her vehicle. Police said she was severely intoxicated. She only wanted to report the missing medication. Officers gave her a form to fill out.
  • A Kendall Avenue caller reported an apparently intoxicated man running around outside yelling at people at 9:22 pm. He was gone when officers arrived.
  • Officers responded to a report of an overdose on Kentland Avenue at 9:40 pm. The subject was revived with Narcan and became combative. The Fire Department transported him to SOMC.

False Alarm

  • Officers responded to an alarm at the Bureau of Workers Compensation on 4th Street just before 10 am. Everything appeared secure.
  • Just after 4:30, there was an alarm at Dickens Pub on Murray Street. The building was secure with no signs of forced entry.
  • Police responded to an alarm on Noddin Way just after 10 pm. It turned out to be a false alarm.

Suspicious Person

Police stopped by Spectrum Cable on Offnere just before 11 am to check on a woman sitting between dumpsters. New Boston Police had a warrant for her and was willing to take her at their jail. A PPD officer transported her to New Boston and handed her over.

Unshakeable Ex

A woman called police just after 11 am to report her ex-boyfriend following her down Gallia Street. She said he pulled into the parking lot of Autozone and started yelling at her.

He then followed her to the Marathon. She told police he drove by multiple times.

The officer advised her how to file a restraining order.

Okay After All

A caller contacted police and said a child was not breathing, then hung up. When police called back at 11:16 am, they discovered the person in distress was actually a 26-year-old man.

His mother was worried because he was asleep in a car and she couldn’t wake him up. She finally got him awake.

Open Door Policy

Police received a report just after noon that the door to the UPS Store was open but the store was closed. The store sent an employee to lock the place up.

She had a problem locking the door and called the owner.

Lost, then Found

A caller reported finding an iPhone near the maintenance building at Greenlawn Cemetery just after 7:30 pm. Police impounded it.
