Family Heartbreak – Portsmouth Police Log 8/21

Portsmouth, Ohio police officers dealt with a string of heartbreaking family situations Thursday and Friday. From a mom lost to an apparent overdose to a missing mentally ill sister to a son kept from his mother. On the lighter side, they were also on the lookout for a Pokemon card thief. Family Tragedy

Thursday

Just before 8:30 pm, police received a call about a possible overdose on Robinson Avenue. The caller said the woman was not breathing.

She was declared dead at 9:20 pm. Children Services picked up the children to transport to another location. An officer met the CPS worker to assist with a house check.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

Thursday

  • Just before 1:30 pm, a man ran out of the Dollar General on Gallia with the store’s property in hand.  The tall, thin man wore black shorts and shirts and a red bandanna. He took off on foot. Employees said he stole from the store twice before. Officers took a report.
  • A woman called police at 7:46 pm to report that a 29th Street neighbor knocked on her door and reported someone had just broken into her home. Police took information for a report.
  • At 9:10 pm, a High Street caller reported a stolen lawnmower and truck keys.

Help’s On The Way

Thursday

  • Portsmouth Police were called to help out EMTs at 1:37 pm. A woman got combative with employees at a family health center.
  • A man called for help just after 4:30 pm. He said he was sprayed with an unknown substance. He said he felt sick and had swollen genitals.
  • The rescue squad was called, but the police came along in case there was a problem. An officer followed the ambulance to SOMC and the woman was admitted without incident.

Pitching A Tent

Thursday

The owner of Iron Body Fitness on Kendall advised police that homeless people had pitched tense behind his business.

He asked that officers keep an eye out.

I Wanna See Mom

Thursday

A distressed son brought officers to SOMC just before 5 pm. A man became so upset that he was not allowed to see his mother that security asked him to leave.

He refused to go. Police said he had calmed down by the time they spoke to him.

Pokemon Pilfered

Thursday

Portsmouth Police responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Dollar Tree on Fifth Street. The woman stole Pokemon cards and then took off on her bicycle in the direction of 5/3 Bank.

Officers were unable to locate her.

Nobody’s Home

Thursday

A worried niece caller police when she discovered the door of her Aunt’s Scioto Trail home open. She told officers her aunt is in a nursing home and no one should be inside the house. However, the front door was open.  Police checked it out just after 6 pm. Everything inside the home appeared to be okay. The door was locked, but it was easy to push it open while locked.

Another call about an empty home came in just a minute later. A man was sleeping on the back porch of an empty Grandview Avenue home. Police asked him to leave.

Where’s My Sister?

Friday

A very worried sister asked for police assistance in locating a Scioto County woman.  She told police she hadn’t spoken to her sister in two days.

The woman claimed the sister’s boyfriend told her that her sister was in a mental hospital in Kentucky. She said the boyfriend and her sister had recently moved out of a home on Harrisonville.

A Portsmouth police officer spoke with King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Ashland and they said they couldn’t release any information about whether the woman was there or not. They informed police they’d given the same information to her worried sister.  They did say they would take the sister’s phone number and if it turned out her sister was indeed there, they would give it to her.

Act Like Adults

Friday

A squabble at the Woodbine Apartments brought police to the scene just after 1 am. Police suggested all involved act like adults.
