Portsmouth Police Officers responded to a body in a Summit Street home, a baby injured during a domestic incident and several people under the influence. We break down the highlights of the calls in these next 9 slides.

Man Down

Just after midnight, a resident of the Woodbine Apartments called to report a man passed out at the fence separating the apartment complex from the laundromat.

She said he appeared to have been assaulted and asked her for a washcloth. Officers could not locate the man.

Parking Problems

A 29th Street caller contacted police at 2:26 am. She wanted police to force people to move their cars. The woman said the vehicles were blocking her from leaving her home.  She said there’s parking on one side of the street only.

Police said there are no signs or marking to indicate those parking rules but they would have an officer check on it. The woman became angry and started cussing.

Officers said they didn’t see any parking violations at the scene and there was nothing to prevent anyone from leaving their driveway.

Dog on the Loose

A person attempting to deliver parts to a Wilson Avenue home was pinned against a door by a protective rottweiler at 10:00 am.

The animal ran off when police arrived. An officer determined the dog had escaped out of a yard. Police lured the animal back into the yard and secured the fence with a zip cuff.

Under The Influence

  • At 1 pm, a local bar reported that a woman was attempting to drive off while intoxicated. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the woman was drinking due to a recent personal tragedy. They arranged for a sober friend to pick her up and got permission from the bar for her to leave her vehicle in the lot.
  • Officers responded to a report of an apparently high man on Grant Street just after 5 pm. Police described him as ‘extremely high’ on heroin and said he kept falling asleep while standing. They arranged for an ambulance to transport him to the hospital.
  • At 7:25 pm, officers received a report of a drunk man vomiting in the driver’s seat of a red truck on Gallia Street.  When officers arrived on the scene, they said the man was highly intoxicated. However, the vehicle was not running and the keys were not in the ignition. They arranged for a sober relative to pick him up.

Threatening Roommate

At 1:30 pm, a Campbell Avenue caller reported that she’d been threatened by her roommate several times in the past few weeks.

She said the pair aren’t a couple, just housemates. The man was not there when police arrived. Officers told her to call them back if there were additional threats.

DOA

Just after 3 pm, officers answered a call to Summit Street about a man lying on the floor with blood around his head. The man was not breathing.

Medics and officers responded, but the man pronounced dead on the scene. First responders were cautioned that this was possible a COVID-19 case.  The funeral home came to the seen to transport the body.

Later in the evening, police received a report of people taking items from the home. It turned out to just be the deceased’s relatives.

Banging Your Head Against a Wall

We’ve all felt like banging our head against a wall from time to time. At 4:41 pm, a caller reported a woman doing just that at the Iron Body Fitness on Kendall Avenue.

Officers spoke with the woman. She claimed she was just eating. They advised her to move on.

Child Hit During Fight

Police answered a domestic call on Dewey Avenue at 5:21 pm. A man and a woman got into a fight and a child was the innocent victim.

The woman told police the man slammed a door into his 11-month-old son. Police identified him from a photo and took information for a report.

You Can Run But You Can’t Hide

A man discovered it’s a waste of time to run from the police after a domestic incident on Thomas Avenue.  The call came in just after 9 pm and the man was spotted running down Wayne Avenue heading towards Kendall. Then he turned onto 17th and headed up Linden where an officer caught up with him and took him into custody.
