This year, Juneteenth falls on Sunday, June 18, but will be observed in many places on Monday, June 19.

On June 19, 1865, Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger and approximately 2,000 Union forces arrived at Galveston Bay, Texas, and nearly a quarter-million enslaved Black people learned about their liberation.
Since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983, Juneteenth has been the first federal holiday established.
Here’s a list of what will be closed in honor of Juneteenth:
Monday will see the closure of all non-essential federal government facilities and offices.
Many summer programs at public and private schools will also be closed, so check your local school schedule.
The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will both be closed on Monday.
On June 19, the USPS will be closed.
The majority of big restaurants, as well as retail, chain, and grocery stores, will remain open.
