Coleman Denies Retirement After Top Democrat’s Post
A post by Scioto County’s top Democrat caused quite a stir. Colin Docterman, Chair of the Scioto County Democratic Party made a Facebook post congratulating County Commissioner Cathy Coleman on her alleged erly retirement. It read, “Congratulations to Commissioner Coleman on her early retirement. Republicans don’t play fair. We’ll find a way to win ANYWAY.”
This prompted the Republican commissioner to issue a statement announcing that she planned to run for re-election in 2024. “I’m proud of everything we’ve done to move Scioto County forward,” Coleman said in a statement issued by the Scioto County Republican Party.
Chairman Docterman posted that early retirement was “a well traveled scheme” that he’d outlined before. That a commissioner could retire early to ensure that party members would pick their replacement instead of the voters.
After Coleman’s announcement, he removed his post and shared her announcement. Docterman said he was wrong and that the early retirement was “a well-traveled rumor” by the time it got to him. And pointed out that in another post he’d added that he “suspected” this would happen soon in the commissioners’ office.
Commissioners Scottie Powell and Bryan Davis handily won last Tuesday’s elections, continuing the Republican domination of the County Commissioners Board.
