Pit Bull Attacks Police Officer

An officer handling a routine call on 17th Street was attacked by a pit bull in the 1100 block of 17th Street.

According to the officer, the animal pushed them off an elevated porch. The officer fell to the ground and injured their knee.

The owner attempted to secure the pit bull, but the dog attempted to attack the officer two more times.

Homeowner Asks For Help Dealing With Homeless Campers

An upset Portsmouth property owner contacted officers to complain about a growing problem in the area.

The woman wanted to speak with an officer regarding a number of homeless people camping around her Mound Street home.

She hoped officers could advise her on how to deal with the unwanted visitors setting up camp.

Around 6:30 pm, officers returned to Mound Street to investigate a report of a couple spotted in the shed of a condemned house. They told police they had stopped to repair their bike and changed clothes.

Officers advised them to stay off the property.
