Marlene Hicks, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at her home surrounded by her children, in Portsmouth, OH. Marlene was born on August 22, 1936, in Portsmouth, OH to the late Richard Pflug and Blanche Mullins. She was married on January 17, 1957, to the late David Hicks.
Marlene was a graduate of Clay High School and worked at a few local department stores, and at SOMC Hospital in Portsmouth before retiring. Marlene was a member of the Portsmouth Garden Club and the UM Women’s Club, she also enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She was willing to help others out when she was able to do so and worked with her late husband at a food pantry in Portsmouth for several years.
She attended Cornerstone (Methodist) Church before she became ill with ALS in early 2014 and was cared for by her eldest son David and daughter Barbara at her home. David read the Bible and sang religious songs to her on a daily basis which she enjoyed. Marlene never complained about her sickness but always maintained a good attitude with a smile on her face, which was amazing to behold considering her illness.

Marlene is survived by two sons, David Hicks Jr. and Greg (Cheryl) Hicks both of Portsmouth, a daughter Barbara (Tom) Clark of Portsmouth, a brother Michael (Karen) Mullins of Wisconsin, a sister Pat (Doug) Riley of Lucasville, grandchildren Alisha Schmidt, Aidan (Grace) Hicks, Alex Graves, Micah (Vanessa) Clark, Ashley (Jeremy) Ginn, Jessica Clark, Tomi Clark, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
