A man with a gun and a serious drug problem caused a dangerous situation on Center Street even though officers had attempted to get him help.
Just after 3:30 am, a worried dad called officers to say he feared his son might be firing shots. He said the man was going through detox but had a gun on him that he refused to put down.
Dispatch contacted Shawnee Mental Health and tried to get in touch with the quick response team but couldn’t get anyone to help.
Around 10 am, officers were called back for a report that the same man was shooting a gun inside the house. Officers took possession of the weapon and took the man into custody.
Police discovered that one of the man’s weapons was reported stolen, but they impounded both of his guns for safekeeping.

Officers arrested Nathan King for felonious assault, receiving stolen property, having weapons under a disability, and improperly discharging a firearm.
King has a long arrest record with at least 23 arrests, including illegal manufacture of drugs, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, failure to appear, driving without a license, criminal trespass, multiple probation violations, drug trafficking, aggravated burglary, and criminal damaging.
