ODs Jump Over the Weekend

When the first of the month falls on a Friday, things get pretty busy for Portsmouth Police. Officers responded to over 100 calls.  There were a disturbing number of suspected overdoses, traffic delays caused by meat, and a child who claimed he was being abused.  We’ll break it all down.

1

ODs and Drugs

It was an especially busy couple of days for suspected overdoses. It looks like Narcan saved a lot of lives.

JAILHOUSE DRUG DRAMA: SUSPECT ACCUSED OF HIDING DOPE INSIDE HIMSELF — BUT REFUSES HOSPITAL TRIP

Friday ODs

  • Just before 3:30 am on Friday officers assisted in reviving a man who’d OD’d on the Scioto Trail. He was given Narcan by medics. He then refused further treatment.
  • On Friday, just after 3 pm, police were called to a possible OD on Park Avenue. Turned out the guy on the ground was just taking a nap between lawn care jobs.
  • At 4 pm, they responded to 7th Street for another OD. The man was revived with Narcan. He refused treatment.
  • Just before 9 pm on Friday, a woman OD’d on 6th Street. She refused medical help.
  • At 9:01 pm on Friday, a man called for help to be sent to his Swauger Valley Road home. He was given Narcan and taken to the hospital.
  • Officers were called to 15th street just before 10 pm on Friday for an OD. The man refused help.

Saturday ODs

  • At 8 am on Saturday, police were called out for an OD on 3rd Street. Narcan was administered to the female victim.
  • Just after noon on Saturday, officers were called to a funeral home on Offnere Street. A man, who appeared to be intoxicated, was yelling and talking to the pavement.
  • Police were called to O’Reilly Auto Parts at 3:39 pm on Saturday for a report of a man who appeared to be on drugs and overdosing.  It turned out he had an outstanding warrant. Police took him in for booking.
  • There was another overdose call just after 6 pm on Royce Street.  The man refused treatment.
  • Just before 8 pm, a woman overdosed in the parking lot of the Berean Baptist Church. She refused treatment.
  • At 9 pm on Saturday, police found a woman lying on the ground on Waller Street. She refused medical treatment.
  • Less than 10 minutes later, they were called to Chestnut Street for another report of an OD.
2

DOA

Officers responded to a 7th street address for a report of a DOA. They called for the coroner and took photos of the scene.

3

Missing Money

Police were summoned to the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street at 8:39 am on Friday. Someone stole an estimated $700 from the ATM.

4

Good Deal Causes Traffic Delays

  • Sonoras Mexican Grill’s meat sale caused a traffic back up on Grandview just after 10 a.m. Officers said they would keep an eye on the situation.
  • Police were called again just after 11:30 am after a woman said she’d seen two near-accidents caused by the backup. Traffic was clear by the time they arrived.
5

Stabbed with a Syringe

A scary assault at the Royal Inn on Kendall. Just before 11 am, Police received a call from a man who said he was stabbed in the neck with the syringe. The attacker also threw a knife at his victim, then fled towards Aldi. The victim claimed the needle had liquid inside. He refused treatment.

However, police say he gave different names for his attacker. They also say there’s a welt on his neck but not where he says he was stabbed.

6

Suspicious People

  • Unfortunately, a homeowner doing the right thing aroused the suspicions of some neighbors. Officers were called to Franklin Avenue for a report of a man taking plywood off a vacant house and going inside.  It turned out he was the new owner and trying to secure the place.
  • A man refused to get out of his cab at 11:30 pm on Saturday. Officers escorted him to his Sterling Avenue home where there was a sober person on hand to assist.
7

They’re Not The Meat Police

A woman called police just after 2 pm on Friday because she had too much chicken. She told officers that she’d accidentally loaded too much chicken in her car at the Sonoras meat sale. She says the restaurant wants it back but she has no way to return it.

8

Hit and Run

  • At 4:04 pm on Friday, Officers were called to Washington Street for a report of a Lexus hit by a U-haul.
  • Just after 5:30, they found a U-haul at some storage units behind a Washington Street business. A man told police his mother-in-law was driving the vehicle. But he doesn’t think she hit anything.
  • Police will have a better idea of what happened when they check surveillance video of the accident.
9

Hit and Run Pt. 2

At 12:35 pm on Saturday, police answered a report of a hit/skip on Coles Blvd. A neighbor has pictures of the suspected vehicle.

10

Child Calls For Help

At 9:37 pm, police were called to the Woodbine Apartments. A child told officers he was being abused by his stepfather.

Police contacted CPS. The agency plans to investigate.

11

Book ’em

Interestingly, looks as if police are more willing to take people to jail than they have been for the last six weeks. For example, at 3 am on Friday, they detained a man on Center Street for a felony warrant.

At 2 am on Saturday, officers were called to Wayne Avenue for a report of someone jumping on vehicles and screaming.

Officers initially took the person to the Scioto County Jail but ended up calling for an ambulance instead.

12

No Thanks

Then again, maybe they aren’t so interested in taking people to jail.

Portsmouth Police were called to the Walmart in New Boston by NBPD. They had a woman with a warrant in custody. Since the Scioto County Jail refused to accept her, Portsmouth Police served a summons and cut her loose.
