It started with a knock meant to help someone in trouble — and spiraled into fear, destruction, and a barefoot escape for safety.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic violence call after a woman fled her home during a violent outburst by an ex-boyfriend.
Deputies learned the man showed up uninvited in the early morning hours, appearing intoxicated and unwell. The woman told deputies she opened the door to help him, but once inside, he began screaming, cursing, and getting in her face. She said he broke furniture, damaged a Christmas tree, and threw multiple items around the residence.
Fearing for her safety, the woman ran out of the home without shoes to call 911.
Deputies located the suspect a short distance away and detained him. During the investigation, the woman realized prescription medication was missing from her home. A search of the suspect revealed multiple pills belonging to the woman, including Gabapentin and Klonopin prescribed following a recent surgery.
The medication was photographed and returned to the woman. Damage inside the home was documented, and deputies provided her with a victims’ rights packet.
The man, identified as Jared Stover, was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.
