The sheer number of charges is staggering.
A Portsmouth couple is now facing a combined 47 felony counts after the Scioto County Grand Jury handed down one of the most disturbing child abuse indictments seen in recent memory.
Twenty-two-year-old Kimberly Gifford was indicted on:
- 16 counts of Endangering Children
- 7 counts of Felonious Assault
Twenty-six-year-old Edward Moore was indicted on:
- 16 counts of Endangering Children
- 8 counts of Felonious Assault
🚨 ALLEGATIONS DESCRIBE EXTENSIVE INJURIES
According to the indictment, the alleged injuries to the infant included:
- Bruising to the face
- Retinal hemorrhaging
- Bruising to the abdomen and forearm
- Spinal injuries
- A collapsed lung
- A subdural hematoma
- Rib fractures
- A sternoclavicular joint fracture
The indictment also alleges the pair failed to seek immediate medical attention for the child.
👶 “TORTURE OR CRUEL ABUSE”
Several of the counts specifically accuse the pair of “torture or cruel abuse” of a child resulting in serious physical harm.
Court documents state Gifford is the child’s biological mother, while Moore allegedly acted “in loco parentis,” meaning prosecutors say he functioned as a parent figure in the home.
