Carolyn Sue Reeder, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born on April 10, 1950, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Robert Duard and Elsie Vivian Cooper Davis.
Carol was a 1968 graduate of Portsmouth High School and received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Shawnee State Community College. She truly enjoyed her nursing career, making lifelong friendships with coworkers along the way. She had worked at the former Mercy Hospital ER and at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, from which she retired. Carol had a great sense of adventure and loved to travel, especially enjoying the beach. She also loved camping and spending time with her granddaughters and nursing friends, and she was a member of Cook Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Z. and Kimberly Reeder of Portsmouth; two granddaughters, Miranda (Michael) Takach and Macayla (Mark) Nice; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Haddie Takach; and a sister, Barbara Jenkins of Portsmouth.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a son, Mark Glen Reeder; her granddaughter, Marisa Karoline ‘Roo’ Reeder; and six siblings, Robert, Danny, Grover, Ronald and Sandy Davis, and Wanda Jean McCloud.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Charles Holsinger officiating. The Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities will offer a tribute immediately before the service begins. There will be no graveside rites following services.
The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home on Wednesday.
