Cows Cross Bridge and Take over Small Ohio Town
Ohio State Troopers reported multiple cows on the highway and side streets of Chesapeake, Ohio.
Along West Virginia’s Interstate 64, a cattle hauler rolled over. Many of the cows crossed the bridge over the Ohio River into the small river town. Traffic was stalled and the bridge closed as authorities and local farmers worked to rusted the cows into trailers.
It was unclear how many cattle were on the truck. Then they took off in several different directions, including on the bridge. Even as late as midnight Ohio police were receiving calls of people spotting more cows.
On the westbound side of the highway, firefighters responded to assist on the truck. A minor injury was sustained before the driver was removed from the truck after spending nearly two hours trapped. The accident shut down the interstate in both directions of I-64 for several hours.
There were three cases of cows escaping and involving a response in U.S. cities that week, including two in West Virginia.
In California, 40 cows escaped on Wednesday. One of the cows charged a family and was killed.
Monday we reported about three cows that got loose in Bluefield, West Virginia. Authorities had to temporarily stop trains to get the animals off the tracks.
