A routine call turned into an act of compassion Tuesday morning when a Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to an unusual situation at the Super Quick in West Portsmouth—and went the extra mile to help someone in need.
Just after 11 a.m., the assistant manager called for help after noticing a man sleeping in the back of the store and talking to himself. Staff said the man was clearly struggling and refused to leave when asked.
Rather than escalating the situation, the responding deputy handled things with calm professionalism and a big heart. Instead of arresting the man or forcing him out, the deputy gave him a ride to New Boston and made sure he was safely dropped off at Rural King.
👏 In a time when law enforcement is often asked to be social workers, medics, and peacekeepers all at once, this deputy showed what it means to serve with compassion and dignity.
Not every hero wears a cape—sometimes they wear a badge and offer a ride instead of a ticket.
