What started as a quiet afternoon quickly turned into a full-scale emergency.
Just after 3 p.m., a call came in reporting a structure fire on Disterdick Lane off German Hollow Road. The first caller said the house was filled with smoke, though no flames were visible yet. There were also no cars in the driveway, raising concerns no one was home—or worse, no one could confirm it.
Green Township firefighters were first on scene and immediately realized they needed more help. Crews called for additional manpower as the situation escalated.
Dispatch contacted AEP, and multiple departments began heading that way. Lloyd Fire was brought in for water support, and Hamilton Fire out of Lawrence County was also called to assist. Greenup Fire Department was later added to the response as crews worked to get the situation under control.
At one point, things got even more complicated when a Lloyd Fire Department vehicle had a radiator failure on the way. They had to call for a tow truck out of Kentucky before continuing operations.
The Red Cross was also contacted to help the homeowner, who was displaced by the fire.
After several hours of work and help from multiple departments across county and state lines, the fire was finally under control around 6 p.m.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
