A watchful neighbor in West Portsmouth helped deputies take a wanted man off the streets after spotting a suspicious vehicle pulling into the driveway of a home where the resident had just passed away earlier that day.
Concerned about potential theft or trespassing, the neighbor didn’t hesitate to call the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded quickly and found Tyler Meade behind the wheel of the unfamiliar white car.
Turns out, Meade had an open warrant and was taken into custody for:
- Probation violation
- Failure to appear
- Lighting violations (no taillight or license plate light)
👏 Hats Off to the Neighbor
This quick-thinking neighbor may have prevented a burglary—or worse. Their call helped ensure the property stayed secure and led to the arrest of a wanted individual.
🛡️ Securing a Home After a Loved One Passes:
Unfortunately, homes left empty after someone dies can become targets. Here are a few ways to protect them:
- Tell trusted neighbors and law enforcement. Let them know the home is vacant.
- Secure all doors and windows. Consider changing the locks.
- Remove valuables or store them securely.
- Put lights on timers to give the appearance someone is home.
- Limit who you tell on social media. Criminals watch for obituaries.
Thanks to one good neighbor, this story ended in cuffs instead of crime.
