How many homeless people are there in Scioto County? That’s what the annual Point in Time Count aims to find out. The count starts Tuesday, January 23, at 8 pm and continues through 6 am on Wednesday, the 24th.
According to the Legal Aid Society of Southeast and Central Ohio, staff from the Scioto County Homeless Shelter, the Salvation Army, Scioto County Community Action, and many volunteers will spend the night trying to identify every person without a place to call home in the county.
The Salvation Army will set up a canteen at various locations around town and offer food and other necessities for those in need. The Homeless Shelter will also stay open to offer referrals.
The count is necessary to qualify for federal funding to aid the homeless. If you’d like to volunteer to help out, go to the Salvation Army at 1001 9th Street on Tuesday, January 23, at 7 pm for instructions and assignments.
If you have donations of new items for the homeless, call Maureen Cadogan at 740-353-4085
