After months of uncertainty surrounding economic development in Scioto County, a new step suggests the county may finally be building a path forward.
The Southern Ohio Port Authority recently shared a job posting announcing that the Scioto County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) is now recruiting its first Economic Development Director.
The position will lead economic development efforts for the nonprofit organization created last year in the wake of the corruption scandal that shook county leadership.
A New Structure After a Turbulent Year
The Scioto County Economic Development Corporation was formed after the indictments of former economic development director Robert Horton and Commissioner Bryan Davis, which left the county without a functioning economic development structure.
County leaders said at the time they wanted to rethink how economic development operates locally, promising a system built around transparency and broader community involvement.
The new nonprofit is intended to shift economic development away from direct county employment and place it under an independent board that can work closely with government, businesses, and residents.
One important distinction: the director position is not a county government job.
Instead, the position will report directly to the board of the nonprofit corporation.
What the Director Would Do
According to the job posting, the director will guide economic growth initiatives while balancing development with the community’s character.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing long-term economic development strategies
