Ohio has more than $3 billion in unclaimed funds and they want to get it back to the people it belongs to. The state says the money comes from forgotten bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, unclaimed refunds, old stocks and bonds, abandoned safe deposit boxes, unclaimed estates, and other sources.
The state reunites hundreds of people every year with their lost cash and the average claim value is over $2,000.
Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to find out if you’re owed cash. All you need to do is head over to Ohio’s Unclaimed Funds Site.
Click on Find Your Funds and then follow the directions. I was surprised to find that Apple owed me money. Filling out a claim was as simple as providing my basic information and email address.
The state immediately e-mailed me a claim form, which does ask you to jump through a bunch of hoops like providing a photo ID, Tax forms, and proof of address, and that I get the document notarized. Since the amount was $1.14, in my case, I’m not going to bother. But if the amount was substantial, it might be worth it.
Check it out and find out if you have any money coming from Ohio Unclaimed Funds.
