John Ward, 84 of West Portsmouth died Thursday, January 7, 2021, at his home. He was born April 21, 1936, in Martin County, Kentucky to the late McKinley and Fannie Delong Ward.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Ward, 4 brothers; Paul Ward Sr., James Ward, Elmer Ward, and Homer Ward, and 2 sisters; Ella Mae Ward and Goldie Cook. He was a United States Army Veteran and coached many kids on the West Side in all sports. He also formerly ran the scores clock for West football and loved to work at the haunted house.
John is survived by his wife, Penny Norman Ward, 3 sons; Tony (Jenny) Ward, Terry (Tanya) Ward, and Jamie (Danielle) Ward, stepchildren; Karen Hiles, Kevin Hiles, Tim Hiles, and Tracy Sanders, 15 grandchildren; Toni, Kayla, Sarah, Bethany, Chelsie, Daniel, Chris, Ashley, Kelsey, Dallas, Carlee, Cassidy, Dakota, Evin, and Lyndie, 12 great-grandchildren; Alex, Julianna, Giovanni, Korbin, Kenzie, Ava, Carder, Hope, Abbi, Brody, Preston, and Addison, along with several nieces and nephews.
