Judy Gayle (Wells) Scifres, 74, of South Shore, KY., died June 24, 2025, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born on September 21, 1950, in Scafold Lick, to the late Lester and Emma (Maddix) Wells. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Cooper; a brother, Ralph Wells; and 2 sisters, Garnet Wells and Guyneth Holbrook.
After graduating from high school, she was a dedicated momma, and once the girls were older, Judy went on to become a pharmacy technician. She retired after a long career working for both Smith’s and Staker’s Drugs. While she loved her career, her one true love was her family. There was nothing more important to her than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Being a Nana was her most important job of all. In her spare time, she enjoyed being quite the Hallmark Movie enthusiast.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Scifres of Sarasota, FL., and Shauna Cooper of South Shore, KY.; 3 grandchildren, Jeremiah “Jey” Farmer, Hanna Cooper, and Haydn Mersiel; 2 great-grandchildren, Clarissa Leadingham, Finn Farmer, and a much anticipated third great grandchild on the way, Harper Mersiel; 2 brothers, Carl Wells and Lester Lee Wells; 3 sisters, Frances Adkins, Shirley Kilgore, and Janet Talbot; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral Services will be 12 P.M. Noon, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Brian Baer officiating. The burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, June 27, 2025, at the funeral home from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. and one hour before the service on Saturday.
