A dispute that allegedly began during Portsmouth’s Juneteenth celebration has now spilled over into police reports and talk of a protection order.
A woman contacted Portsmouth police after what she described as a frightening encounter involving another woman at Bannon Park during the celebration.
⚡ “SPARKING A TASER”
According to the report, the caller said the other woman repeatedly sparked a Taser in her direction during the event.
The caller alleged the woman appeared intoxicated and at one point laid across the hood of her vehicle while continuing to activate the device.
The caller told police she was not physically injured and her vehicle was not damaged.
🏨 DISPUTE CONTINUED AFTER EVENT
The woman also reported that the conflict did not end at the celebration.
According to the report, she told officers the two later became involved in a physical altercation at a local hotel.
No injuries were reported to police in connection with that incident.
⚖️ SEEKING PROTECTION ORDER
The caller told officers she was afraid of the other woman and wanted information about obtaining a protection order.
Police documented her allegations and advised her that the report could be used if she chose to seek a court order.
🚔 NO CHARGES FILED
At the time of the report, no criminal charges had been filed and no arrests had been made.
Police documented the complaint and the matter may ultimately be resolved through the court system if either party seeks further action.
⚠️ A REMINDER ABOUT TASERS
While Tasers are commonly associated with law enforcement, brandishing or threatening someone with a Taser can potentially result in criminal charges depending on the circumstances and whether a victim reasonably fears harm.
In this case, officers documented the complaint but did not report any injuries or property damage.
