A shoplifter told officers he had a very good reason for stealing – he didn’t want his blind wife to go hungry.
Deputies responded to the South Point Tractor Supply after employees said a man had come into the store, gathered items, and just walked out the door. Security cameras caught a photo of the thief and the truck he left in. Deputies recognized the truck from prior encounters and headed to the man’s home.
The driver told officers he didn’t know his passenger was stealing and gave them his name and address. Deputies discovered the man walking with a woman on a Township Road. He immediately told them his blind wife had nothing to do with the theft.
He admitted to officers that he stole the items and said he’d already traded one of them for food, and the other items were at his home.
Officers took him and his wife home and the other stolen items under some clothes in the living room.
The man told police he took the items to get food and he could not allow his blind wife to go hungry. Police returned the other items to the store and arrested the man for theft.
