A man looking to cut off his ankle monitor headed straight to an area hardware store to get some tools to do the job. Unfortunately for him, his ankle monitor tattled on him to his probation officer.
Just after noon, the probation department notified the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office that a man’s ankle monitor had sent an alert that he was trying to cut it off. The monitor pinpointed him at a Proctorville hardware store.
When a deputy arrived at the scene, they activated the monitor’s siren and spotted the guy leaving the store and heading toward Kroger. The deputy took the man into custody and asked if he had any type of weapon on him.
The guy admitted he had wire snips stuck to his ankle monitor. When the deputy asked if the guy stole the tool from the store, he admitted it. Officers found several other tools in the guy’s possession.
The deputy put him in a patrol car and proceeded to interview store employees. They said they had shown the items to the guy, but he never paid for them.
Police took him into custody for theft and booked him into the Lawrence County Jail.
