Man’s Internet Pal Shows Up at His House—And Won’t Leave!
What started as an innocent online friendship turned into a real-life horror story for one Portsmouth man after his internet buddy tracked him down and refused to leave!
From Online Chats to Unwanted Visits
The man told police he had been chatting with his online acquaintance for years and finally decided to meet him in Wisconsin. But after returning home, things took a dark turn.
His so-called “friend” became obsessed, calling family members to dig up personal information and even reaching out to the man’s landlord to try and get him evicted!
Unwanted Guest Won’t Take the Hint
At 7 p.m., things escalated when the online pal showed up at his house, knocking relentlessly and refusing to leave. Fearing for his safety, the Portsmouth man called police for help.
By the time officers arrived, the unwanted visitor had disappeared, but not before the victim managed to capture his name and license plate number. Police advised him on the steps to file for a protection order.
The Dark Side of Meeting People Online
The internet makes it easy to connect—but it also makes it easier for strangers to invade your life. Here’s how to protect yourself:
Never Share Personal Information: Avoid giving out your home address, workplace, or family details to people you haven’t met in real life.
Meet in Public Places: Always meet in a busy, well-lit area for the first time. Never invite someone you barely know to your home.
Trust Your Gut: If someone seems off, clingy, or obsessive online, don’t ignore the red flags!
Block & Report: If an online acquaintance starts harassing you, block them and report their behavior.
Get a Protection Order: If someone won’t leave you alone, take legal action before things escalate.
What to Do If Someone Won’t Leave You Alone
🔹 Call 911 if you feel threatened.
🔹 Document everything—texts, calls, and visits.
🔹 Tell friends and family what’s happening.
🔹 Change your locks or security settings if needed.
