A potentially deadly situation unfolded in the parking lot of McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville when a witness spotted a man slumped in a vehicle who appeared to be under the influence. Quick-thinking bystanders called for help—and likely saved a life.
A Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene and immediately suspected a possible overdose, requesting an ambulance to respond. EMS arrived promptly and evaluated the man, but he refused transport to the hospital.
Rather than leave him alone, officers arranged for a safe ride home, and his friends stepped up to take care of his vehicle.
🙌 First Responders Praised
Thanks to the fast action of both the caller and first responders, this scary situation didn’t turn tragic. Deputies and EMTs showed compassion and quick thinking to de-escalate a potentially fatal overdose.
🚨 What To Do If You See Someone in Distress:
- Don’t ignore it. If someone looks unconscious, disoriented, or is sitting too long in a parked car, call 911. It could be a medical emergency, overdose, or someone in need of help.
- Don’t assume they’re just “sleeping it off.” Seconds count in overdose situations.
- Don’t try to drive intoxicated. Whether it’s alcohol or drugs, call for a ride from a sober friend, family member, taxi, or rideshare.
The life you save could be someone else’s—or your own. Let’s keep looking out for one another.
