Penny Burchett, 62, of Sciotodale, died on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at home, with her children by her bedside. Born on April 30, 1961, in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Merdy Smith and Donna Pollitt Smith. She enjoyed caring for others, having served as an RN in the emergency room at SOMC for 15 years and an LPN for 9 years, prior to that.
Penny was of the Baptist faith, having attended Waits Baptist Church until her health declined. She remained faithful by watching the online services and reading her bible.
She loved working puzzles, playing her two favorite video games, Zelda and Mario, and watching reruns of her favorite game shows, Price is Right and Supermarket Sweep.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jaxson.
Surviving are a son, J.D. (Glenna) Walker of Wheelersburg; three daughters, Shonda (Mike) Briggs of Sciotodale, Krystal Walker and Miranda Burchett, both of Wheelersburg; a brother, Mardy Smith of Washington Courthouse; two sisters, Cindy (Dave) Munn of Portsmouth and Rhonda (T.L.) Willis of Panama City Beach, FL; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Kaylee, Chloe, Gavin, Mason, Makenlee, Arabella, Lynleigh and Myles, and several nieces and nephews.
Penny’s most cherished thing in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Penny’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTVILLE with Pastor Brent Saxton officiating. The interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
