Portsmouth Police responded to 63 calls on Thursday, March 19, including suspected child rape, a guest who rammed a car into her host’s house, and an angry man taking off his clothes in a parking lot.
A Mound Street home is missing three televisions, $500 in jewelry, an XBox One, Playstation 4, shoes, and tools. Police got the call just after midnight on Thursday. Right now they have no suspects.
Just before 9 am, police officers responded to a report of a man rolling around on the ground in a Kendall Avenue parking lot. They transported him to the hospital.
Shortly after that, officers went to check on a High Street toddler. A caller reported that his mother had overdosed the previous evening but chosen not to seek medical treatment and the caller wanted to make sure everyone was okay. Turns out the mom had a warrant for failure to appear. Police advised her to turn herself in.
Around 10:30 am, someone found a purple lunch box on the Roy Rogers Esplanade in downtown Portsmouth and called for an officer. Police were able to return it to its rightful owner.
Just before 11:30 am, a man reported to police that an angry guest at his home had rammed his house with a car because he asked her to leave. He said she’d been staying with him for two weeks, but he hadn’t managed to get her name. Officers told him it was a civil matter and cautioned him that when you invite someone to stay with you in your rental property, you’ll be held liable for the damage.
Around noon, a Summit Street woman reported that her son stole her 2012 Cadillac. By the time police arrived ti answer the call, the man had returned the car and run inside his mom’s house to hide. Mom declined to file a report.
It appears Police had a delay in getting a report they needed to check into a case of a child being sexually abused. Around 2 pm, they received a call from a Children’s’ Services worker about a little girl being sexually abused by her brother. Due to COVID-19, the man was working from home and said the report had not yet been entered into the system. He promised to email them the report by the end of the day. The email with the needed report arrived around 3:40 pm.
Just after 2 pm, officers were called to 11th Street to investigate reports of a man stripping off his clothes, yelling, and throwing rocks at cars. Police identified him as man known to have mental health issues. His sister walked him home.
A man was stabbed at 8:30 pm on Boundary Street launching a search of Branch Rickey Park. Officers say they have enough evidence to issue a felony arrest warrant.
Just after 11 pm, Kroger reported that a woman in a wheelchair wearing pink pajama pants accompanied by a man in a brown sweatshirt stole a bag of Goldfish crackers. They were last seen eastbound on 8th Street.
