Police Chase Turns into Drug Bust
On June 1st, 2024, a dramatic police pursuit unfolded in Waverly as Sergeant Taylor of the Waverly Police Department observed a vehicle veering erratically on North Street. The driver, later identified as Donald Entler, refused to stop and led authorities on a dangerous chase. During the pursuit, a bag containing drugs and drug paraphernalia was discarded from the vehicle, which Chief Winfield recovered.
Sergeant Taylor, accompanied by Officer Johnson and Lieutenant Cottrell from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, maintained their pursuit as the suspect continued to drive at high speeds, disregarding traffic signs and weaving across lanes on State Route 220. Eventually, a male passenger exited the vehicle near Leeth Creek Road while it was still in motion. Officer Johnson and Lieutenant Cottrell apprehended the passenger without incident while the driver accelerated and left the scene.
Undeterred, Sergeant Taylor managed to bring the fleeing vehicle to a stop a short distance later. The female driver, Samantha Entler, complied with Sergeant Taylor’s commands and was taken into custody without further resistance. Both suspects were identified as Donald and Samantha Entler, and their constitutional rights were explained to them.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a pink sparkly bag containing multiple syringes, a digital scale, empty baggies, and two tied baggies containing a crystal rock substance. Additionally, a separate bag discarded during the chase was found to contain syringes. The evidence was photographed, logged, and will be submitted to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for drug testing.
It was revealed that Donald Entler had an outstanding felony warrant from both the Pike County Sheriff’s and Ross County Sheriff’s offices. In addition to the warrant, he faces charges for violating a protection order. Samantha Entler was charged with failure to comply with a lawful order or signal.
Following the incident, both suspects were transported to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office to await further processing. The Waverly Police Department expressed gratitude to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office for their invaluable assistance in the successful apprehension of the suspects.
Further charges are anticipated pending the results of the drug testing conducted by the BCI. The Waverly Police Department, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
