A 911 call about a possible home invasion took a wild turn when Portsmouth Police arrived at a Mabert Road residence — only to discover the so-called “intruder” was actually an invited guest.
Just after 12:30 p.m., a man called police in a panic, reporting that a strange woman had broken into his house and was lying in his bed surrounded by drugs.
But when officers arrived on the scene, the plot twist hit hard: there was no break-in at all. It turns out, the caller’s brother, who also lives at the home, had invited the woman to stay. Since she was there with a resident’s permission, police said no crime had occurred.
As for the alleged drugs? Officers didn’t report any criminal charges stemming from the scene — but it was definitely a wake-up call for everyone involved.
🛏️ Roommate Rules: What You Should Know Before Inviting Guests Over
Living with roommates means sharing space — but it also means setting ground rules so everyone feels safe and respected. Here’s how to keep things peaceful:
👥 Set Clear Guest Boundaries
- Agree in advance on rules for overnight guests or extended stays.
- Let each other know who’s coming and when — no surprises!
- If a guest is staying more than a couple of nights, make sure all roommates are cool with it.
🚨 Safety First
- Never bring someone over you don’t fully trust, especially if they’ll be left alone in the house.
- Keep private spaces off-limits unless you have permission.
🗣️ Communication Is Key
- Use a shared calendar or group chat to keep everyone in the loop.
- If something feels off, talk to your roommate before dialing 911 — it could save a lot of confusion and stress.
