PPD officers answered a scary report of a kid with a gun. Plus they dealt with people who refused to leave a condemned house and several people under the influence. We break it all down in these next 13 slides.

Under The Influence

Just before 4 am, officers received a report of a man in an orange hoodie at the Kroger Gas Station on 9th Street refusing to move away from the caller’s vehicle. The caller said the guy stood behind his car and wouldn’t let him back up. He also said the man appeared to be high.

When police arrived at the scene they said the guy looked like he might be a little bit high but seemed able to take care of himself.

This Property Is Condemned

Police lent a hand to the Portsmouth City Health Department just after 10:30 to officially condemn a house on Auburn Avenue.

They also helped serve warrants from the ODRC and Sheriff’s Office on the resident. Residents were allowed time to get their valuables out and move vehicles. Police told the residents they’d be back to check later in the day. The health department said it would board up the house the next day.

When officers returned to the home at 6 pm, the residents were still in the house. Officers warned them to get their stuff and leave or face arrest. Police advised it was their last warning.

Just after midnight on Friday, officers got another call that the people were still in the home. When they checked, the condemned signs were removed and no one answered the door.

Panic on the Bridge.

Greenup County law enforcement informed PPD about a possible jumper on the Grant Bridge shortly after 4 pm.

When officers arrived, the man had returned to the safe side of the rail and an ambulance crew was with him. The man said he was not contemplating suicide, just looking in the water.

Greenup County Sheriff’s deputies took him home.

  • A woman called the police at 7:45 pm to report her husband was tearing up the house after drinking. However, since he was breaking his own property and not harming himself or anyone else, police could not take him into custody. Police attempted to calm things down and told her to call back if the problem continued. At 9:15 pm, the police arrived at the home again. The woman decided she would leave the house for the night.

Upset About Eviction

At 10:22 pm, a caller reported a disturbance coming from an apartment on 21st Street. A woman was upset that her building had been sold and she would be forced to leave her apartment.

Police said she was just talking very loudly on the phone about the issue and they asked her to keep it down.

Uninvited Guests

Residents of a Highland Avenue home called police at 9:14 pm to report a flashlight in their shed. When police arrived, they discovered that someone had moved into the shed.

The residents are college students and aren’t out in the back yard often, so they’d missed their new tenant. Officers advised them to get rid of the belongings and board up the shed.

Sad Situation

A gentleman called police just before 10 pm to report that his wife claimed he was mistreating her and wanted to speak to an officer.

It turned out the woman was upset because her husband was hurting when he tried to help her up from the couch or bed. Police advised him to talk with her home health aide for advice on how to properly lift her.

Gunshots on Thomas Avenue

Officers answered a report of gunshots on Thomas Avenue just after 10 pm. A juvenile was suspected of firing his mom’s handgun in the woods behind the parking lot at the end of Kendall Avenue

Officers checked the area and finally found the juvenile and the kid’s mother at their Kendall Avenue home. Both said they didn’t know anything about shots and the kid had been with her for the last four hours.

Several witnesses backed up their story that the juvenile was not in the area when officers heard shots fired.
